Ideal Hair Transplant Candidates

Before undergoing hair transplant surgery, your surgeon will have to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Not all hair loss patients are eligible for surgery; some physicians may recommend non-invasive treatments.

The following are some important factors that will help to determine if you are a good candidate for hair transplant surgery:

  • Healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head to serve as donor areas
  • Self-conscious about appearance
  • Good understanding of the procedure
  • Realistic goals and expectations
  • Meets the appropriate age requirement

* Hair color, texture, and waviness or curliness are factors that may also affect the cosmetic result.

A physician may turn down patients in their 20s because a hair loss pattern may not be properly recognized. Older patients are easier to diagnosis and therefore given a proper treatment plan. Additionally, if the area to be treated is too large then only a small frontal section may be done.
