Eyelid Surgery

("Blepharoplasty")

Am I An Ideal Blepharoplasty Candidate?

Many patients seek blepharoplasty for a variety of reasons, both plastic and cosmetic surgery-related. Commonly, eyelid surgery is performed in order to:

  • Create a double eyelid (commonly known as "double eyelid surgery" or "Asian blepharoplasty")
  • Remove puffy or sagging skin around the eyes
  • Reduce the appearance of bags under the eyes
  • Improve vision that is impaired due to droopy eyelids

In addition to seeking blepharoplasty to correct the above physical traits, it is also important that a patient is free of glaucoma and other opthamologic diseases. A plastic surgeon will also expect the patient to be physically and psychologically healthy, aware of the risks and complications associated with blepharoplasty, and have realistic surgical goals and expectations.

During a consultation with a doctor who specializes in eyelid surgery, he or she will examine you to determine if you fulfill the expected criteria of an ideal blepharoplasty patient. For the surgery to be successful, it is important that a surgical candidate meet all of the requirements expected of an eyelid surgery patient.
