Butt Implants FAQ

Am I a good candidate for buttock implants?

An ideal buttock implants candidate may be described as someone who is physically and mentally healthy, at least 18 years old, aware of the risks and complications associated with the procedure, and seeking improvement rather than perfection.

What type of butt implants will be used?

Either a solid or semi-solid silicone butt implant will be utilized.

How many techniques are there in buttocks implants? Is fat transfer better than implants or vice versa?

The techniques used for butt augmentation include butt implants or fat transfer. Generally, implants are preferred for enhancement because the results are longer-lasting.

What is the typical cost of butt implants? Does insurance cover this procedure?

In 2007, the average buttocks implants cost was $4,250, according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). This price does not reflect other fees, such as those for the surgical facility, anesthesia, medications, and so on. Because butt enhancement is a cosmetic procedure, insurance companies generally don't cover the costs of surgery.

How and where is the buttock implants surgery performed? How long does the surgery take?

Butt implants surgery is usually performed at a surgical suite. During the surgery, the physician will make an incision in the crease beneath the buttocks, then insert the butt implant above or below the gluteus maximums. If fat grafting is performed, the surgeon will remove excess fat from one area of the body and inject it into the targeted area. The surgery can take anywhere between two to three hours.

Do butt implants look fake?

Butt implants, if inserted correctly, will appear natural.

What should I expect after surgery? How long do buttock implants last and when will I be able to start seeing the results?

Following surgery, you can expect to be a little sore, which can be controlled with medication. You should also be prepared to stay in bed for at least 24 hours and wear a compression garment for a few days after surgery. Results are permanent if implants are used, but additional injections may be required if fat transfer is performed. After a couple of weeks, the swelling will subside and the full-effects of surgery can be seen.

Is there much pain, swelling or scarring associated with getting butt implants?

Pain is minimal and can be controlled with medication. Swelling can last a few weeks, but will subside in time. Because of the location of the incisions, scars should be hidden, but there is a chance of some visible scarring occurring.

When can I return to work or strenuous activities?

Patients may return to work within a few days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.

What are the risks and side effects of getting buttock implants? Are implants prone to rupturing?

Some of the butt implants risks and side effects include reaction to anesthesia, infection, asymmetry, and implant shifting. Butt implant rupture is possible, but rare.
